Germain’s Brown Flake is blended from premium fermented, air cured gold and and dark Virginia tobacco leaf with no added flavours. The Virginia tobaccos develop notes of wood, peat, spice, and bread with some cigar undertones.  This blend is medium in terms of its strength and nicotine content. This flake burns slow, consistent and cool with wonderful room note and no bite.

J F Germain’s & Sons are one of the last true British pipe tobacco blenders. Based in Jersey they have been producing the finest quality pipe tobaccos since 1820. Germain’s pipe tobacco is notoriously difficult to obtain as demand exceeds supply so buy it when available.

Presented in a 50g tin Germain’s Brown Flake is thinly sliced and will quite often be presented in the tin as a broken flake. The tobacco should not require any additional drying before loading into the pipe. You can prepare this flake tobacco in a number of ways:

Folding and stuffing. Fold the flake in half long ways against the grain of the flake. Fold the flake in half again this time with the grain to form a square. Gently squeeze the tobacco before stuffing into the pipe bowl.

Rubbing out. Rub the flake gently between the hands to break up the flake to desired thickness before loading the pipe.

Rolling. Roll the flake with the grain generally lengthwise, squeeze gently and load into the pipe bowl.

Whichever method you use is a question of personal preference but the tobacco is best packed lightly to prevent any draw problems as flake tobacco tends to expand more so than ready rubbed tobaccos. To fully appreciate the flavour and taste we recommend it is best smoked at a slow pace.
