Peterson have been making churchwarden pipes since 1845 and are modelled on the old clay tavern pipes. The pipes generally have a small bowl, with a long stem and are exceptional light. These pipes came to be known as churchwardens due to their popularity with the European clergy in the 18th and 19th century. Churchwardens are a house pipe not designed for carrying around in the pocket. Therefore the exceptionally light and long the shank is strengthened by the addition of a bright nickel band to help protect this delicate pipe. The Peterson Churchwarden D17 Green Briar Pipe bowls are hand stained a rich emerald green colour which shows off the natural grain patterns of the briar. The pipes are finished with a nickel mount, jet black vulcanite stem and a fish tail mouth piece. The Peterson Churchwarden D17 Green Briar Pipe has a hybridised bowl with elements of both a Dublin and acorn bowl design incorporated into this unique design. The pipe has a slightly curved stem.
